Description
Between Brenne and Touraine, the route takes you to the Château d'Azay-le-Ferron. Starting from St. Michel-en-Brenne, the route follows the Claise River—either closely or from a distance—which serves as a drainage channel for the ponds in the northern part of the park. In Martizay, the archaeological museum run by the Friends of Old Martizay takes you on a journey from the Paleolithic period through the Neolithic era to the Gallo-Roman era. In Azay-le-Ferron, a guided tour of the castle allows you to explore sumptuous, fully furnished rooms while discovering the daily life of the Luzarche family, who owned the estate until 1951; this place was designed to be virtually self-sufficient. Unique tours round out the experience.
