Common Cranes visit the Brenne twice a year : once during the autumn migration from Scandinavia to Southern Europe, and once more at the end of Winter, flying back to Scandinavia, their nesting ground. Some of these travellers stay in the Brenne throughout Winter. In daylight, they feed in the meadows or maize plots harvested. In the evening, they gather in dormitories for the night. Cranes are among Europe's largest migratory birds, standing 1.20m tall with a wingspan of 1.80 to 2.40m. On this trip, you'll be led by an enthusiastic guide who will take you to the best spots for crane-watching.

Day 1: settling in and meeting the Common Cranes
We selected two accommodations with the ‘Valeurs Parc naturel régional de la Brenne’ label to enhance your immersion in nature. Your hosts will offer you a cosy nest and will share with you their passion for the Brenne Regional Nature Park. Your hosts' good knowledge of the area make them excellent ambassadors able to give you precise high-quality advice according to your expectations.
End afternoon, your guide will meet you at your accommodation and will lead you during a 2 to 3 hours nature tour, looking for the Common Cranes as they gather in the dormitory for the night. The naturalist guide will help you to observe and understand the behaviour of these remarkable birds.
Back at your B&B, you will enjoy dinner based on local produce (with your guide if you wish so).
Day 2: Discovering Common Cranes at their feeding grounds
Your guide will pick you up to drive you to places where the Cranes feed and where they can be easily observed. Your guide will drive you to different places, giving you enough time to observe and take pictures on each spot.
You will enjoy your lunch at the Maison du Parc restaurant, located in the heart of the typical hamlet called Le Bouchet, dominated by its castle. After a delicious meal based on local specialities. After a delicious meal based on local specialities, you can continue your Brenne experience going hiking on one of our 60 hiking trails. Our travel consultants in La Maison du Parc will be delighted to advise you on this matter. You could also choose to visit the Bouchet castle (100m away) which offers the best view in Brenne from its terrace.
Day 3: birdwatching hike on your own
Suggested hike: "Encounter with the Brenne landscapes" : this walking trail is a veritable hymn to the Brenne. On this 12km route, starting from the Etang du Blizon, you'll pass through a breathtaking variety of landscapes, including ponds, natural meadows, moorland and wet woods. You will spot wintering birds that you might have not observed yet during your Crane tours. From the same departure spot, you will find ‘In the footsteps of the Brenne’ discovery trail (1.6 km) with its hides, footbridges and single footpaths. The Nature Parc has more than 15 hides in a 20km perimeter. They are open everyday, all year round, with free access. You could also decide to go back to some spots you have discovered and most appreciated during the Crane tours.
