Staying in the Brenne Regional Natural Park can also be an opportunity to discover the Loire Valley, its wines and chateaux. The Loire, its tributaries and its tufa hillsides can be reached by car in less than two hours. They form an ideal setting for the local vineyards. In the heart of the troglodyte cellars of Touraine, many vintages lie waiting to be tasted at their best: Vouvray, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Montlouis-sur-Loire, and many other appellations among the Loire wines.
In this “valley of kings”, everywhere stand prestigious monuments that tell the history of France: the Amboise royal chateau , the chateaux of Clos Lucé, Azay-le-Rideau, Langeais, Ussé, Villandry, the royal fortress of Chinon, the royal city of Loches, without forgetting the chateau of Chenonceau !
Berry Province
Local gastronomy is one of the prides of Berry, with culinary specialties rich in flavour and tradition. Berry green lentils, black truffles, pâté berrichon or goat’s cheeses such as Valencay or crottin de Chavignol, are among the most famous specialties of Berry. Pair them with a very famous Sancerre, Quincy or Reuilly wine, with their pale colour and fruity taste, and a explosion of tastes is guaranteed.
The Brenne Regional Natural Park covers part of the former province of Berry. A few kilometres from La Brenne, discover a rich cultural and historical heritage, as evidenced by its many chateaus, churches and museums. Bourges cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Valençay chateau which is one of the most beautiful chateaus in the Loire Valley with its French gardens and Renaissance architecture, are examples. The George Sand domain in the village of Nohant retraces the life and work of the famous nineteenth century writer. Don't miss the Gallo-Roman site of Argentomagus.
